Howdy Camp welcomes transfer students to Texas A&M before the spring semester every year with the purpose of giving them an opportunity to have fun, create lasting friendships, and learn more about the life at Texas A&M. We want to make sure that your transition into the Aggie Family is one filled with memories and purpose.
Howdy Camp is a 3-day extended orientation program that takes place at Trinity Pines in Trinity, Texas. Students will ride buses from Texas A&M campus to Trinity Pines, where we will be camping in comfortably furnished cabins!
Howdy Camp is led by Texas A&M students who are dedicated and passionate about making the transition process successful for each person. Each counselor, crew member, and staff member has personal experience with transferring and being new to campus, this way they can offer crucial advice about classes, fun things to do in College Station, and any other questions that you might have about being an Aggie!
What do you do at Howdy Camp?
The transfers are split into large “camps” that have a designated theme and color! In your camp, you will spend time getting to know each other and developing bonds that will last you throughout your college career. You will be given the opportunity to see other organizations that are offered at Texas A&M through guest speakers. You will also learn and participate in Aggie Traditions and Yell Practice, Aggie Muster, and Silver Taps.
Within each camp, you will be divided into Discussion Groups of 10-15 transfers and 2 counselors. These Discussion Groups, or DGs, are where the lasting friendships are made. In addition to meeting your next best friend, you will have the opportunity to learn about Aggie life through your counselors and ask any questions that you may have.
Each night, you will have the opportunity to socialize with other transfers and the counselors at our themed mixers! These are great opportunities to get to know your new Aggie friends!
How much does Howdy Camp Cost?
Howdy Camp costs $170. This price covers the cost of your bus ride, lodging at Trinity Pines, meals for 3 days and a Howdy Camp T-shirt and water bottle.
When is Howdy Camp?
Howdy Camp is generally the first weekend in January. We are mindful of the cold weather so there will be minimal outdoor activities, but we ask that you bring warm clothing!
