The Role of A Counselor
The role of a counselor is to serve as a support system for the transfer students during their time here at Texas A&M. Each counselor and their partner leads a group of 8-10 students called a Discussion Group (DG) and facilitates continuity events for these students throughout their first year and beyond! Counselors also perform informative and purposeful skits, so the new Aggies may better understand life in Aggieland, A&M traditions, & on-campus services. Each semester a group of counselors dedicate their time and energy to help welcome the new transfer students to Texas A&M. Camp counselors must attend mandatory training throughout the spring semester and summer and desire to build lasting relationships with the incoming students!
A few counselors share the passion that they have for this organization:
"Being a Counselor for ATC gave me the most amazing friend base I could have ever asked for. I joined to give back to this amazing university and because I have a passion for this organization, but it gave me so much more."
- Mitch Roberts
"My overall experience as a counselor was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I enjoyed every minute of it...As a counselor, you will be a role model, a mentor, and a friend."
- Austin Barker
"Becoming a counselor was a wonderful experience for me. I took a chance and I'm glad that I did. Becoming a counselor gave me more confidence to be myself and opened me up as a person as I gained new experiences and met new people. I would like to say that when I look back on life there are two decisions I am so happy that I made: first, attending Texas A&M and second, becoming a part of Aggie Transition Camps."
